Examinations will be conducted in the months of December and June. To reduce the burden on the candidates, NTA has introduced Computer Based Examination for the first time. The exam is conducted in the form of Computer Based Test (CBT) and consists of two papers.
NET/SET/SLET shall be the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges/Institutes. Those who clear the paper are eligible for Junior Research Fellowship or are considered for the post of Assistant Professor.

To appear for NET, a candidate must have secured at least 55 per cent marks in Master’s degree or equivalent examination from recognized universities/institutes.
There is a relaxation of five per cent for OBC, Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) / Persons with Disabilities (PWD) category and transgender candidates who have secured at least 50 per cent marks (without rounding off). Those pursuing Masters (in final year) can also apply. The result of UGC NET depends on the final answer key.

Minimum qualifying marks of UGC NET: Normalization method is used to determine the marks obtained by the candidates.
